The Celtic Wheel of the Year is an ancient seasonal calender marking the passage of time through eight festivals, based on the cycles of the sun and the Earth's natural rhythms. It divides the year into four solar events (solstices and equinoxes) and four cross-quarter days, which mark the beginnings of each season. These festivals celebrate the changing seasons and the cycles of life, death and rebirth.
Samhain (October31/November1)
Marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of the Celtic New Year, also honoring ancestors and the gateways to the dark half of the year.
Imbolc (February 1/2)
Celebrates the returning of light, the stirring of life, and the planing of intentions for the coming year, often associated with the goddess Brigid.
Beltane (May 1)
A fire festival celebrating passion, abundance, and the full blood of life.
Lughnasadh (August 1)
Marks the first harvest, gratitude for the bounty of the earth and the transition into autumn.
